Post Rock

I'm finding myself becoming more and more of a fan of Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Ros with each passing day.

Your favorite artists, albums and tracks from this genre?

Godspeed, You Black Emperor!
Sigur Ros
Explosions in the Sky
A Silver Mt. Zion
Mogwai

There may be other that I'm forgetting, but those are all great bands. I really want to go to a post rock show, they seem like they'd be really cool. Explosions was here recently, but it was on a bad school night for me.

The term has come to be almost meaningless and cover so many damn things now. Since you already mentioned Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Rós, I won't include them.

Limiting it to one per band....

Slint - Spiderland
Godspeed You Black Emperor!
- Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
Talk Talk
- Laughing Stock
Mogwai
- Young Team
Gastr del Sol
- Camoufleur
Tortoise
- Millions Now Living Will Never Die
Stereolab
- Emperor Tomato Ketchup
June of 44
- Four Great Points
Flying Saucer Attack
- Further
Bark Psychosis
- Hex
Dirty Three
- Horse Stories
The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band
- Born into Trouble as the Sparks Fly Upward

P.S. The Grasshoppa has been RM long enough to know the search engine does work.

i really enjoy mogwai when i'm in the right mood. i've tried GYBE a few times and basically the only way i listen to it is if it comes on randomly on itunes and i don't notice it, i can't just sit and listen to them.

i've been meaning to check out explosions in the sky though. i'm just really slack hehehe what's a good starting point?

i also really like 'sianspheric' as far as, i guess, old school? post rock goes. they might be considered a bit more on the shoe gazer side of things but i still dig them a lot.

Satch, I'm just wondering what you guys're into, not looking for suggestions.

Panbient, as for Explosions, I own Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place and I love it. I reccomend the track "Your Hand in Mine."

Jazz, I saw Explosions at Coachella and they were amazing. Never seen anything like it. You should definately check them out if they come by again.

Rothko is good, the latest album is more ambient though.

If you want some good instrumental stuff in the vein of 'post rock', check out:

Unwed Sailor
Saxon Shore
Tortoise (as mentioned already by Satch)

...and you may even like Don Caballero.

Saxon Shore is pretty good, though. I dig 'The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore' and 'Four Months Of Darkness'.

I'll check Unwed Sailor and Don Caballero, thanks.

What exactly is post rock?
Is it some stylish genre with 20 minutes solos and no singing?
