I think Pan's right, but there are some things that would open a whole bag of flame in the lowest degree, and discussion in the highest. If someone came on RM and said, "Yeah, man, I really dig sax. I've listened to a lot of sax and I can honestly say the best sax I've ever heard is 'Baker Street'." That would most likely cause some "Huhs?" among the regulars. But there is (some ) civility among us. I don't really dig everything Satch listens to, or everything Jazz, or Panbient, or Rovias listen to, but we've never - as far as I can remember - flamed each other (to any serious degree... ). I think there's a level of respect for our collective appreciation and knowledge of music.
If your buddy comes on RM with that attitude in mind, there'll be no problem.

He...Who Drops Knowledge

If I actually bothered to respond, I would make some sarcastic comment or drop huge amounts of knowledge in response....for example the infamous DA MONK being Spotty response, but in the end WTF? would I/we care if someone I/we don't know or will never want to know posts something stupid.
Thus Spoke Sacred Cow and Big Lug Satchmo
P.S. I would just like to point out that I am in a lot better shape than a F*****G Sacred Cow.

Translation:
I couldn't stand Satchmo either, but that Big Lug has a way about him....I now have to admit that I am going to name my first born son Satchmo. Lady Zola would love to actually have a first name to work with, but Satchmo it will be....who knows, he might end up being the 16th Dali Lama.... Dali Lama Satchmo Zola has a nice ring to it. Imagine all the backstage passes and free Good S**T Single Malt that I am going to get as the Dali Lama's father, BABY!

First, let me say that I'd have no problem naming a kid Satchmo (or Vladimir, for that matter), but I already have three children and GOOD GOD that's enough.
Panbient and others - no decent forum would 'ban' anyone for their opinion or going against the grain. It's much more subtle, a general clicking of tongues and rolling of eyes sort of thing. The folks on Radiomute are quite tolerant, but certainly no different than any other music forum with this sort of collective reaction. It's human nature when strongly held beliefs or views are questioned.
Some kid posted something about "how all hardcore punk sounds exactly the same" on my forum and I had a rough time whistling a happy tune in response.

yeah see that's where we differ. i know i 'should' support any and all new threads but a comment like that is basically a troll asking for it. again it depends on how they approach it.
if they go on about how all hardcore punk they've heard sounds the same and would like a little knowledge on the style to see if it's actually the case that's one thing and while the user might get a few sarcastic comments there would usually be a few valid posts in their thread
on the other hand if the person goes on about how all hardcore punk sounds the same for the sole reason of bitching about something on the net, well... just because we're not being all nicey nice and blowing sunshine up their ass doesn't mean they aren't welcome to come back hehehe
i think the main difference with RM is that we'll pretty much tolerate anyone as long as they don't mind that we're not all going to agree on their views. it's the one trick pony posters who only want to discuss one thing or act like their king of their thread that don't last long around here (like the one a few weeks ago who wanted yes no responses from users but not satchmo).
i mean seriously just run a search for team rancho's posts and you'll have the perfect example of someone who goes against the grain about as much as anyone here can and who (whether we like him or not) has proven to leave a mark on this forum.

see. this is an example of someone trying to be a dick. most likely because my punk subgenre rants weren't all nicey nice
on the plus side it's nice to see that not everyone runs away from the forum as soon as they stop getting blind praise. stick around and keep posting, once you hit 50 posts and 2 weeks you'll actually get to see the rest of the site including the member music showcase (even if it's not 'that' active).
i'm starting to think haakon might have to lower that requirement to keep more new people though.

Yeah, it's about time the Team-Rancho rule has been changed, however, is the Big K even in contact with any of you?
