I was suggested "Ramones Mania" by someone here I believe and it is a great start to the Ramones collection. If you can spend some more money then get "Hey! Ho! Let's Go: The Anthology".

I can't personally vouche for it but "All The Stuff (And More) Vol. 1 & 2 look pretty interesting.

If you just want full LPs (probably not the way to go if these are your first Ramones albums) then I would just go chronologically for the first 4.

I already have "Loud, Fast, Ramones", which is a best of with 30 songs. So I'll be going for full LPs from now on.

Why is this maybe not a good idea? Do their less famous songs suck?

No not at all, but their later albums can be pretty hit or miss; especially when Joey gets into those love songs.

This is why I suggest a large anthology. Some bands write albums but The Ramones catalog can be heard as singles so having an anthology that cuts out the crap in between isn't so hard to do with The Ramones whereas with a group like Pink Floyd you ruin the songs by doing this.

If you do the LP route definitely get the albums from the 70s, I think most fans would agree this is where the best material is.

A collection of something, in this case music:

If you are going to get their first four albums I would go with All The Stuff (And More) vol. 1 & 2 since they include b-sides, rarities and live songs as well as the original 4 albums.

If you go with either "The Anthology" or both volumes of "All The Stuff (And More)" I think you would have a pretty decent collection of Ramones material.

It's basically the same as a compilation.

Their best would be....

Leave Home
Rocket to Russia
Road to Ruin
It's Alive (another live recording I was at.)

Hey! Waar in Belgie ergens? Een anthology is eigenlijk een soort 'naslagwerk'. Een verzamel cd met meer dan alleen enkel hits erop. Je prie que vous ëtes pas wallon. ;-) Autre-fois, je suis un vraiement con!

And for the record: both gentlemen above are absolutely right!
Get the "END OF THE CENTURY" dvd as well!

Nee, ik ben geen Waal. Walen zijn homo's.

I have already planned to buy the DVD "End of the century", and now that you mention it, I'm also wondering whether there are any good DVDs with music videos or live performances.

Also, are these "anthologies" available in normal large record stores or are they only available in obscure stores in some dark alley?

You find them everywhere. Even Fnac and Free Record Shop. But I recommand a Bilbo if you have one in the neighborhoud. They are more specialised in "alternative" music. But if you're from Leuven, I say go to JJ records. All the punk you can handle.

Good DVD's of the Ramones? I saw several, only the one I mentioned I really like. There's also RAW, about life on tour, but in someway they let the ramones look like pussies..
