What program do you use to record?
what program and equipment do you use to record??
i use adobe auditions 1.5 and a yamaha mg16/4 mixer but the thing is i'm connecting it through the 1/8th inch line in input hting. so the soudns not too bad, but i cant seem to do different trackson the software. i can record different tracks, but it picks up the last track too, so makign it all under one track.
what can i do??
and id like to know about other equipment and softwares.

So...you're going out of the Yamaha into the line input on your computer's sound card?
I'm not 100% sure that I get what else you're talking about, but I'll try. Are you trying to track more than one instrument at a time? If so, there's no way to do that, the way you're approaching it. If you're just trying to overdub individual instruments, one at a time, you could do that. Your sound card probably only has one line input, so whatever you're sending through your mixer is getting summed and sent to your software as one track -- one input, one track.
But like I said, if you want to record multi-track to Audition, you'd just have to record one instrument at a time, creating a new track for each instrument, record-enabling only the track for the instrument you're currently playing.
Basically, as it is, Audition's really only serving as the equivalent of tape for you.
If that's not quite what you meant, I'm not sure why you'd be picking up all of your previous tracks every time you record a new one unless you've got some weird internal routing going on.

Honestly, theses days, for project studios there's really no reason to have an analog mixer, as the software -- in your case, Audition -- is the mixer, plus the medium. Mixing "in the box" as it's called, allows for a lot more flexibility -- in my opinion -- than mixing "live" down to tape or another medium. You only need preamps and an a/d converter, these days most commonly found in home studios as all-in-one solutions:

In your case, if you wanted to keep using the preamps in your mixer, would need to pick up an A/D converter with enough channels to match the outputs on your mixer and you'd be able to track more than one chennel simultaniously. Or, just forgo the mixer and pick up a cheap all-in-one interface.

As far as the original title goes, I'm mostly a MOTU Digital Performer user, but I also use Digidesign Pro Tools LE and Ableton Live as far as recording proper goes.
MIDI is another matter.
In any case, I'll go ahead and assume you're on Windows, so Logic & Digital Performer are out of the question for you.

Ableton Live for me too.
I have audition but I only use it for some sample cuts and file conversions.

I am an 'old school' Cubase guy. I am still using 5.1
I bought SX 2.2 but I have never installed it on a system. I am considering it soon.
I have an array of mics in the Sure, AKG and Rode flavours, 27 guitars in the Fender, Gibson, Kramer, etc. flavours along with 2 basses, a collection of amplifiers and I recently added this 5 piece maple kit with an extra snare to my studio(ish) hobby...
