Ok, forget this whole post... listening deeper into the album they even start ripping off Thought Industry and Primus of all things. Pass on this one. These guys are the Godsmack of experimental metal.
Try the album "adultery" by DFD.

Eh, I doubt I'll bother. That release really turned me off.

Nels Cline, guitarist for Wilco. I've enjoyed Wilco's music for quite a while now, but I never realized what a talented musician Nels is in and of himself. He's been putting out solo albums for near on two decades now, including two with Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth fame. Ranges from Minimalist composition to traditional jazz to avant-gardist gutbucket rock and roll smashing. MP3s:

You've been here for two years and just discovered Nels Cline? You obviously haven't taken a look at much in the Jazz forum, I take it.

He's one of my favorite improvising guitarists, although I haven't heard anything of Wilco...doesn't really sound like something I'd go for, in general.

Also look for his brother, Alex Cline's music as well - amazing improvising drummer/percussionist; they're usually featured on each other's records.

Actually, I'm glad you brought him up. I'd completely missed that the Nels Cline Singers have a new release out, "Draw Breath" - I'll have to pick that up ASAP.

It's great to see Cline finally getting the attention he deserves and bringing in the Benjamins....even if playing with Wilco only takes about a quark of his abilities. He's completely wasted on the latest recording, by the by.

I am not sure which was funnier in the last couple of years.... Downbeat putting Hamid Drake on the cover or Guitar magazine having Cline as newcomers/discoveries of the year. Each of which is in their 50's.....has been recording for around 28-years and has been the best musician on their perspective instrument in any non-classical genre of music for a good decade or two.

Showing you how clueless Rolling Stone has become.....earlier in the year they named Cline as one of the top 20 new guitar players.

Currently somewhere in Satchmo's top 25 for 2007.

I was here for six months and left for a year and a half. My musical tastes have grown out a bit. Regardless, I had kind of poopoo'd him every time I heard his name mentioned, mostly because he had at some point associated with Thurston Moore, and given that he plays in Wilco, I had written him off as the kind of name drug-addled scenesters drop to get more cred. But, you know, people surprise you-- Nels has got serious game.

I haven't been on the up and up with Downbeat since I found out that they wouldn't cover Oscar Peterson for forty years because he was Canadian. Struck me as a magazine whose nose has been in the dirt for quite some time now. And tha Rolling Stone article- what a joke. They had Derek Trucks as a newcomer, too.

But then again, there was a wonderful bio on Nels Cline in JazzTimes not long ago... I can't recall if it was the one with "Santana talks Jazz" or the soundtrack to Clint Eastwood's life. Don't worry, they only have public interest stories on the cover to move units, it's legit.
