Imus VS Hip Hop
Imus says stupid shyte about Black Women and Hip Hop gets the blame. Yes Hip Hop needs to clean up its act a bit but he should not be able to use it as a scapegoat. The media just moved away from what he said and instantly started in on Hip Hop. Oprah really pissed me off with her lynchmob of selfrighteous elders and angry soccer moms. They jumped on one of the "true" Hip Hop artists Common. The ironic part about Oprah is when I moved to this country (early teens) the first thing I saw that disrespected and objectified black women was The Color Purple. People please tell me you agree.

In no way am I trying to clear Imus and his name but I do agree that if he gets kicked off the air then a lot of commercial hip hop should be.
I mean Camron has a song called suck it or not, read the lyrics if you want.
I don't know what you are exactly referring to when you ask if any of us agree since you bring up a couple points in your post, clarification and elaboration would be great.
As far as Oprah goes I have no idea what she is up to or what she really says. I do know that Bill Cosby said that rap should clean up its act years ago and I don't even think he was the first "black person with influence" to suggest that.
Thats fucked up about Oprah and her cronies pointing to Common, he should be one of the last to get accused.

Hip Hop needs to clean up its act but the point I was making is that the battle can be fought on its own and not as a media decoy to Don Imus.

This thus in....Imus was fired on April 12th.
P.S. Now he is suing CBS for $120 million....eventually this will be settled out of court.
aka
CBS will pay him several million to walk away.
aka
as Don King would say....Only in America, Baby!
P.P.S. As much as I can't stand Oprah, Spielberg, and The Color Purple....You apparently missed the point.

Hip Hop does not need to clean up its act. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
Music should never be censored. If you want to censor certain songs and music videos being played at noon, thats a different story. Take it up with ClearChannel.
Every "reputable" American that is saying that music needs to clean up its act has lost it and is no longer a "reputable" American.
"Rap is the only way to communicate with black youth anymore. We're the TV station, the six o'clock news. We've got to tell the truth."
- Chuck D, Public Enemy
If you don't like it, or don't agree with it, don't listen to it.

Ummmm, the majority of Rap today has become a caricature....and last I looked, I was American and I am sure that I am reputable.
P.S. My man Chuck dropped that back in 1989!

Obviously I think you are reputable, but I don't think that Rap has to clean up anything.
Where does one draw the line between what is acceptable and what should be censored?
Anyone should be able to create anything they want.
"Censorship reflects society's lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime."

When it comes to Censorship....I am down with Old School Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.....
aka
"The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man falsely shouting fire in a theater and causing a panic. [...] The question in every case is whether the words used are used in such circumstances and are of such a nature as to create a clear and present danger that they will bring about the substantive evils that Congress has a right to prevent. "

P.S. The entire First Amendment...
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
aka
this only covers the Govt..
