No....

I would suggest you check out the person who is considered the Godfather of Rap and Political Rap....Gil Scott-Heron.

After that....you might want to check The Last Poets and Watts Prophets.

I think you're straight and you're just joking around. I'm surprised you didn't say Daltrey cause you were joking around I can tell.

You really have no clue what your're talking about.

Knife-Edge wasn't recorded until 1970...try checking when those I mentioned were recording.

Knife-Edge itself is based on JanáÄ?ek’s Sinfonietta and the instrumental middle part is ripped off from Bach's first French Suite in D minor.

And while I am at it....the song Barbarian on that record is them ripping off Bartók’s Allegro Barbaro.

The Big Comeback? there is no song by that name by DA MAN. He does have an album and song called The Payback. The song which some people call "The Big Payback" is influential on Gangsta Rap and like a great many of his recordings the music was sampled by many in Rap.

James Brown influenced Rap "music" greatly....in the early years Brown and Zeppelin were the two most sampled in Rap. However, you were talking about spoken word and not music.

I am not even sure how Plant and Daltrey even get mentioned in this discussion.

Daltrey didn't get the longer hair until around 1969 and Plant had that long for a while by the time he started. Daltrey's hair was a lot shorter in the early years and now it's back to being short again.

And they don't sound anything alike.

Back to the original subject of this thread, it is well understood that Gil Scott-Heron is the Godfather of Rap.

It's just spoken song lyrics...

There were plenty of songs in early rock/blues that had unsung verses.

For instance, here's a Bob Dylan song written in 1963 (7 years before your ELP example)
