American Trad Rock

What's up everyone,

Wanted to see if anyone else out there listens to Silvertide or American Minor? I am looking for more artists in this vein, hard to describe, but its basically just good rock and roll. They sound to me like they could have walked out of the 70's, and I love it. I would welcome any suggestions. Here is a link for reference.

Silvertide
Listened to Silvertide with Ain't Coming Home

Just to be clear. Are you asking for the names of the bands they are influenced by, or other bands around today that act like it's still the '70's?

Ahh sorry I was not clearer, more specifically bands that still act like it's the 70's. I am pretty familiar with their influences, or I like to think, there is always more to learn. So yes, good guitar driven rock from a any post 1990's band that is like the ones I mentioned.
Listened to Buckcherry with Frontside

Ok, in that case, I really can't be of help. I am not a big fan of retro watered down music/bands. If I want to hear it, I am going to listen to the real deal. It's one thing to be influenced by someone before, it's another to try to be completely unoriginal.

Having said that, Wolfmother is the latest Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath clones that people seem to like.

Well, except for others like Mike Patton.

Interesting... in a modern setting I found them to be at least refreshing if not original. In the middle of so many other modern rock bands that continue to push angst driven cookie-cutter music. Don't get me wrong, I like some of those bands too, depending on my mood.

I am just getting familiar with Wolfmother, and it's ok. I can't say I am sold on it yet though. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Satchmo your forgetting to mention your favorite band!

Blind Melon

Others will probably disagree but I think they are pretty good. To me their sound can be described as grunge meets classic rock.

I don't like any of the other bands brought up in this thread, Wolfmother just seemed boring to me and I've never heard the others but they don't sound like my thing.

Anyhow, try out their self titled album first and then the second LP Soup is the next place to go.

Allmusic does list them as American Trad Rock which you can read about here http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...A1&sql=77:4353
and get a list of some more artists and albums.

i can't think of specific new bands that have 'that' sound but it seems to me like you're looking for hippie jam rock.

blind melon is a good call, i like them, they were good but not great. same with the black crowes. when i checked silvertide i had to cross reference the bands to make sure there weren't blood relatives in both groups.

i also realize you're looking for modern bands but if you've never checked out cactus i HIGHLY recommend looking into them for this style of classic blues based boogie rock. it's like satchmo said i don't see the point in seeking out modern bands that sound like 30 years ago. and don't let the fact that rod stewart was in the faces turn you away from checking them out if you haven't already done so too.

Well, for me rock and roll now-a-days begins and ends with Gov't Mule. Their album Dose would be a great place to start.

John Butler Trio would be another good one. Their album Three kicks mucho butto.

Both of these bands have a jam band atmosphere when they play live, but the studio stuff is pretty straight forward.
