I'm building a reference site for Japanese Mini LPs and we have two versions of Sticky Fingers. I'm trying to work out which is closer to the original.

One has a fold-open type gatefold front (1st picture) and the other one has the inside panel folded up from the front making a top loading pocket.

I do not have an original vinyl. Does anyone have an original vinyl with zipper and if so which of these two is the closest?

Originaly the lp had an actual working zipper for the cover....under that was cardboard that was supposed to protect the record from the zipper....it had the picture of the of the man in his underwear on it.

The zipper was zipped up when it was originally shipped, but that lead to the track of Sister Morphine being damaged. They then started shipping it with it unzipped.


It's also the first record that they used the Stones famous logo of a caricature of Jagger's lips and tongue.

Yes.... thank you.... got all that.... but.... did the original complete top cover fold open from left to right or did you have to open the zipper and peer into the pants in order to see the undies?

If you're asking if it was a gatefold that opened to see the picture the answer is no. If you zipped it open, you would see the cardboard with the picture of the man in the underwear.




In the 70's....it was Exile on Main Street and Black and Blue that were gatefold.

... sorry to hassle you again (I assume you have an original vinyl version to hand)..... does the vinyl go into the top of the cover (like my image 2 above) or the side?

I have had it for about 35-years. The side.
