I stay pretty vague with genre classifications, and I really only use them for my own convenience with either Itunes or Media Center. So mine are more used as personal markers and I try to get close rather than to be exact descriptions.

So, for Lou Reed I would use Classic Rock and for Blondie, New Wave. I don't know the other two songs, I'm afraid.

Walk On The Wild Side - Glam Rock
Real thing - Dance Pop by way of The Ultimate Horror
one way or another - New Wave & Pop-Rock
Blinded In Chains - gave this a listen and it sounds like watered down NWOBHM

Yea I know what you mean. But nevertheless if I can find the right tag than I prefer to use that one and if there are users like Satchmo8101 willing to give me a little love tap and push me in the right direction, I prefer it that way.

and what would you say about Sammy Davis Jr's___Candy Man?

Folk Rock? The Rising___Bruce Springsteen
Money (That's What I Want)___John Belushi Blues rock i suppose...

Real Thing
As I have it... I do not care about those 3.2 mebi. for that one

The Candy Man was originally written for the original and much better version of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Sammy wanted to play the character of the Candy Store owner in the film. This is Old School Pop aka Traditional Pop.

The Rising - Rock & Roll

Money (That's What I Want) - was originally sung by Barrett Strong in 1959 and was Motown's first hit. It's R&B.

1. Considering I am old enough to have seen Animal House when it first came out, yes I have heard it.

2 The oldest version of the song "Rising Sun" is the 1928 recording by Texas Alexander. It was Josh White in 1938 who first made it popular.

The original version also has different lyrics than the Animals version. The gender of the person telling the story was a woman. The original version was from the point of view of the prostitute in the brothel.

The melody of the song is based on an English folk song from the 17th century.

It's been covered by Woodie Guthrie, Bob Dylan, The Beatles and a great many more. Hell, even Andy Griffith and Dolly Parton covered it. According to Chas Chandler and Eric Burdon of the Animals, it was Josh White's version which led to their covering it.

Lead Belly's is my favorite version.

You could call The Animals version British Blues Rock.

The Original Traditional Version with the woman as the storyteller.

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun.
It's been the ruin of many a poor girl,
and me, O God, for one.

If I had listened what Mamma said,
I'd 'a' been at home today.
Being so young and foolish, poor boy,
let a rambler lead me astray.

Go tell my baby sister
never do like I have done
to shun that house in New Orleans
they call the Rising Sun.

My mother she's a tailor;
she sold those new blue jeans.
My sweetheart, he's a drunkard, Lord, Lord,
drinks down in New Orleans.

The only thing a drunkard needs
is a suitcase and a trunk.
The only time he's satisfied
is when he's on a drunk.

Fills his glasses to the brim,
passes them around
only pleasure he gets out of life
is hoboin' from town to town.

One foot is on the platform
and the other one on the train.
I'm going back to New Orleans
to wear that ball and chain.

Going back to New Orleans,
my race is almost run.
Going back to spend the rest of my days
beneath that Rising Sun.

Animals version with a man as the storyteller.

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new bluejeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans

Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk

------ organ solo ------

Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun

Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain

Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one
