Layne Staley
Not only was he a great vocalist (Alice in Chains), but a great man.
I am sad I never had a chance to see him, and he is no longer alive today.

I am curious....what is it that about him and/or his accomplishments that would make him a "Great Man"?
April 5th is also the day Kurt Cobain, Allen Ginsberg, and Sam Bellow died, to name a few.

Saul Bellow
I can now mark "correct Satchmo" off my list of things to do before I die.

All of his Art, kindness, humor. So lighthearted, just ended up with a terrible sickness, and eventually his bad habits lead to his death. But like he said, His bad habits aren't his title, his strenghths are.
I am aware of Kurt dying on the same day, not the others. It is strange how 2 great frontmen of seattle grunge bands can go down on (or around) the exact same day, it's crazy. I thought of them on april 5th.
Though either of them aren't here they will both be remembered by many. And at least by me, in my heart.
RIP Kurt Cobain,
RIP Layne (One of the greatest impacts on my life)

I don't believe I ever said that I never made mistakes....especially not with typos. Amazing as it might seem to some, Satchmo is still human. So, you're not the first and I am sure that you will not be the last to point out a mistake. Who knows, you might be one of the very rare ones to do it twice before it's your time.
I of course will be 397 at that time and still be going, BABY!
In this case....I was also thinking of adding in Sam Walton for the 5th, but decided to keep it all Arts related.

Since corrections are being made....it was
"My bad habits aren't my title. My strengths and talents are my title."

I always find it strange when people choose to honor the day of someone's death rather than the day of their birth

Agreed. A short list of particular ones of note, off the top of my head:
In most of the sub-continent and South East Asia, Vesak (amongst its various other names), celebrated as the Buddha's Birthday, this year on May 2.
Similarly, in North East Asia, Buddha's Birthday, celebrated on the eighth day of the fourth month of the Lunar Calendar (as a Lantern Festival here in South Korea), this year on May 24.
Gandhi Jayanti, in India, celebrated on October 2, the birthday of The Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day, in the US, though not always on his birthday of January 15, but on the third Monday of each January.
The Marathon of Hope (or The Terry Fox Run), in Canada (and around the world) each September, though also not celebrated on the birthday of Terrance Stanley Fox, it's not observed on his date of death either, and is, by all merits, a celebration of his life.

You didn't correct me, Cuz I'm aware of the quote, I could have posted the whole thing if I wanted, I chose to write it like it is.
In other note. I chose to honor the day of their death, that's the day they end, by the time of their death they are already well known. They aren't famous right off when they are born. That's just what I think, I honor both days. But specifically the 5th Because I'm a grunger (Staley/Cobain)
