Thumbs up Your Favorite Artist of the Week

I don't know if anyone else has cycles like this, but I generally tend to have periods where I'm completely captivated by one artist for about a week, even if I've been listening to the artist for years, I'll "rediscover" them, so to speak, and go on a long binge of listening to them, to be replaced by another artist later, generally in weekly cycles. (( And yes, I'm listening to music again -- I finally got a car so I have time to listen to music again as I'm on the move ))

If anyone has a "favorite artist of the moment" -- it doesn't necessarily have to be a weekly deal as in my case -- feel free to post them here.

My favorite artist of the week is Can. Yes, I've been listening to them for years and years, but it's been a long time since I've gone through their catalogue and I sort of forgot just how incredible they were. Their early music predicted everything from post-punk to post-rock, years, even decades in advance. Their sonic range was so incredible, and their mastery of so many different techniques and approaches so broad, they were really one of a handful of artists of the '70s who actually deserved to be called "progressive".

So yeah, as of this week, Can is my favorite band. I have no idea who it'll be next week. Feel free to post your own.

I go through phases as well - wouldn't say weekly ones - where I find myself enthralled mostly with a single band/artist and listen mostly to that music. I'm not really going through one right now; these days I enjoy putting my iTunes on shuffle and see what I get. My most recent phase though was with Ride, especially with their album Going Blank Again.

Even though I do have phases like that, I tend to get a healthy dose of Blues everyday, and these days it's mostly jump blues and the shouters. So, I guess even within my common listening tendencies, I have phases (ie, listen to Blues daily, but sometimes different genres/schools of Blues catch me for a period more than other genres/schools).

The new Antibalas cd whenever I'm at home, really fun to cook to.

Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem have been my fall back bands when I want to hear something familiar on the bus.

I can't think of anything I've really been on a kicker for this past week, I do agree with you on that idea since I always find myself going through phases.

I'm going through a Wu Tang Clan phase. It's weird because I don't listen to much rap.

Here I am back on a phase: again in the genre of Blues - Jump Blues to be exact - with a constant rotation of "Mr Five By Five" Jimmy Rushing.
