3 bands who belong in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
1 ABBA - ABBA from Sweden sold 400 million records and had 9 number ones in the UK. They recorded 110 songs in English 1972-82. Dancing Queen, Take A Chance On Me & The Winner Takes It All are among their hits. All 4 members of ABBA have had successful solo careers: Agnetha Faltskog, Frida Lyngstad, Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus. Benny & Bjorn went into musical theatre with Chess & Kristina. Mamma Mia!, based on ABBA songs, is the biggest musical of the century and will be a movie in 2008.
2 THE GUESS WHO - This Canadian group should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Their string of hits includes These Eyes, American Woman & No Time. The Guess Who proved to be a prolific album band. Lead singer Burton Cummings may have the best voice in rock. Guitarist Randy Bachman founded Bachman-Turner Overdrive and recorded the classic Takin' Care Of Business.
3 STEPPENWOLF - John Kay and Steppenwolf achieved immortality with their multi-generational anthem Born To Be Wild. They were one of the first heavy metal groups and went on to produce albums of social and political substance. Kay and his mother escaped from Germany after World War II, and his background has played a role in his songwriting.

 abba
this young dude at work sat next to me for a few weeks and we'd usually chat about music. at one point he admitted to liking abba since he had an older sister that used to listen to it alot when he was younger. it's the only time i've ever told anyone it wasn't ok for them to like a band
HELL YES on the Guess Who though. they've already got a star up here on the canadian walk of fame in toronto since like 2001 but whatever. they kick hella ass. BTO and burton cummings solo stuff also had their moments but never as much as the original line up for the GW. i like BTO's 'lookin' out for number 1' better than 'taking care of business' to tell you the truth.

i love to quote on the photo
not so sure on steppenwolf though. they have some nice blues rock tunes 'hey lawdy mama' is a pretty bitchin' riff . i'll be the first to acknowledge their use of heavy metal as a term but real heavy metal didn't hit anyone's ears until this album...

I guess I should be glad you didn't nominate Shania Twain, even if it is because she isn't eligible yet.

Jim, when did you write Save the Planet? I'm checking to see when you'll be eligible for the Hall of Fame...

You know that if someone finally stepped up and nominated him, they'd make an exception.

I know your always promoting ABBA to the death, they really aren't that good in my eyes. But to say it is the biggest musical of the century? Now your just lying.
The Guess Who, not too big a fan but I can't really dispute them being in the hall of fame.
Steppenwolf is alright but nothing special. Magic Carpet ride is a great song but i get bored quick when I listen to my best of collection of theirs.
Who really gives a shit about the hall of fame?

Exactly. Its an honor system based on album sales and the mainstream market all decided by the music corporation itself. The bands that really matter will never get it, and the bands they've chosen all ready are a horrible reflection of true rock n roll. More artist should protest like the Sex Pistols did.

If based on album sales, why aren't Bon Jovi already in?

Bon Jovi isn't eligible yet. They have two more years before they reach the 25- years-after-debut requirement.
