Cool Michael Jackson,King of Pop?

Michael Jackson still the king of pop? He's been the king of pop now for many years. But he is getting old and no more releases new singles and album. I think its time that title is taken away from him!
Anybody know who the title is suppose to go to now?

Me. I'm the King of Pop. I'm also the King of Swing, the King of Drum n' Fife, the King of CafJazz, the King of Film Scores, the King of Outlaw Country, the King of IDM, the King of Dub, the King of Reguetón, the King of Oom-pah, the King of Jigs n' Reels, the King of Katajjaq (I wear a dress when I perform) but only the Prince of Rekkukara, the King of Polka, the King of Nanguan, the King of Sawt, the King of Raï (I also wear a dress when performing this), the King of Zouglou, the King of Pansori, the King of Qawwali (a title which I graciously received on the passing of the great Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan), the King of Mbube, the King of Verbunkos, the King of Vanaspati, and when great master, Riley B. King, decides to leave us, I will be humbly bestowed the King of the Blues.

PS. It is also believed that when the other great master, George Ivan Morrison, makes his final leave - please, may it be ages from now - I will be honoured as the King of Caledonia Soul.

Michael Jackson will always be the king of pop because of the many achievements throughout his career - unless of course someonecomes along to blow them out of the water, which I doubt will happem

Is Elvis no longer 'The King'?
Is James Brown no longer the 'The godfather of Soul'?

these men were given their titles and they have not been taken away, so I see no reason to remove Mike's title any time soon.

Here is a list of some of his achievements I found:

biggest selling album worldwide (by far!) Thriller - 104million copies.
Biggest selling solo artist (yes, evenmore than Elvis) - 350 million solo sales
Biggest selling TOTAL sale (inc Jacksons and Jackson 5 days) - 600 - 650 million sales

First artist to earn more than 100 million in a single year

First (and only?) artist to have a song enter the billboard chart at number 1 with 'You Are Not Alone'. This beat the previous highest entry, which was for entering at number 3 with his own song 'Scream'.

Biggest record deal in history with Sony
Biggest sponsorship deal with Pepsi

There are so many more.
There is nobody that comes close to this.

you're missing the point.

having a great deal with a corporate sponsor like pepsi doesn't make you a great artist or musician. it has NOTHING to do with music but everything to do with being a viable SALES TOOL.

MJ was great. his time is over. elvis and JB still retain their titles because they never went bat shit insane and fucked over their legacy by making tv documentaries to validate their logic as to why it was ok for 40 year old men to sleep with prepubescent boys.

1. Elvis and and James Brown were given the names....Jackson gave himself the name and insisted it be used if anyone wanted him to show up.

2. The biggest selling record of all time is the Eagles Greatest Hits....which says a lot about the tastes of people. Thriller is 2nd.

3. Elvis is the most successful solo artist and since he's over a Billion sales....2nd place isn't even close.

He's been dead for almost 30-years and still sells in the millions and has had #1 hits and records. Last year his estate grossed $42 million. It's the first time that he wasn't #1 on the top-earning dead celebrities list. Cobain was #1 and that's only because Courtney sold 25% of Nirvana's publishing rights.

Forget about sales, Jackson can't give his records away.

Jackson's people always inflate his record sales higher than they are officially.

You never see any official orginzation or even his former label using those exaggerated numbers for his worldwide sales, only his representives.

4. If you adjust for inflantion you will find Elvis made more money in any in almost every year after his first than Jackson.

5. Jackson's worldwide sales as a solo artist are around 300 million....far far short of a Billion+. The Jackson 5 worldwide sales are around 41 million.

Elvis' U.S. sales alone are 125 million. As bad as his films were they were almost always the top 5 to 10 money makers the year of their release.

Jackson has already been forgotten except for his most diehard and delusional fans. Did I mention he can't give away any records, anymore....and that Sony dumped him? His last three releases have all lost Sony large amounts of money. Jackson is on the constant verge of bankrupty....the only thing that has kept him from going into the streets is the Beatles publishing rights on 271 songs. Of course, he now only owes half of them....and even then in name only. He had to sell the other half to Sony to pay back debits and the half he owns were used to secure loans he can't pay back. He's on constant verge of defaulting on those loans.

Those publishing rights are currently worth $1.2 Billion and if he were to sell his half he would end up with next to nothing.

Oh yeah, Jackson is a pedophile.

Now if you want something that will never ever be duplicated again by any solo artist or group.

Elvis' 1973 live Satellite performance from Hawaii was watched by:

91.8% of the viewers in the Philippines
70 to 80% of the viewers in Korea
70% in Hong Kong
51.% of viewers in the U.S. aka more than watched The First Man on the Moon.
37.8% of the viewers in Japan

In 40 countries for a total of 1.5 billion people.

aka

That's approximately 40.54% of the Earth's Population at the time.

I just checked....when you adjust for inflation Elvis first year's income when he still hadn't been called The King of Rock or made his most sales it would be $85 million as of 2006.

His first deal to perform in Vegas (the worst thing to happen to him) was worth $20 million in today's money and that was for only 2-weeks work.

For his first film he also made $20 million as of 2006.

Also keep in mind, all his sales happened before MTV and the worldwide marketing that takes place now. It's because of him that most of those things had to be created.

P.S. In 1958 the year before going into the Army he grossed about $1.5 million, which is $101,016,99.72 in 2006. An lp cost $3.58 in 1959....that's $26.80 in 2006. The average household income median in the U.S. in 1959 was $5400 which adjusted for inflantion is $36,366.12 in 2006.

In 2005 (the most recent numbers) the average household income median for the U.S. was $46,326 or $47901.08 in 2006.
