Unlike a lot of people on this forum I was a teenager in the 80's and I know how bad corporate cock rock can get. I was saying nothing about Jon Bon Jovi as a person, I just find it hard to understand how people can be getting back into that crap.

i TOTALLY hear you on this. we've got a lot of young people at my work and they're all about how cool the 80s were while never cluing in. i'll admit i thought bon jovi was cool when i was in grade 8, that was also 1989 and we didn't have the internet to provide us with unlimited downloads, there were no music forums to discuss and learn about new styles, there was no allmusic.com to rate and catalog just about everything ever released. for our generation of teens we were reliant on the radio, word of mouth, and if you were wealthy enough to have cable or a satellite dish you had mtv or muchmusic.
now i find myself wondering if all these teens even realize that you can use the internet for more than keeping tabs on their myspace page and camwhoring. the worst for me though is what's passing as 'punk' today. holy fuck does that shit ever piss me off. any single old school punk band worth the title had something worthwhile to say, something to make you think thoughts that pissed you off to the point of action. not some fucking whiny emo cack lifting melodies from the fucking thompson twins or some other garbage 80s band and screaming about getting his heart broken.
i'll admit i'm not the biggest punk rock guy here but i'm pretty certain jello / rollins / mackay / strummer never whined about getting dumped in their tunes.
