But check out Jazzmatazz, The Low End Theory, and Reachin'. I think you'll find what you are looking for.

Couldn't agree more. Jazzmatazz is subtitled 'An Exerimental Fusion of Hip-Hop and Jazz' and does exactly what it says on the tin! My favourite track on that is the French rap from MC Solaar.

Worth noting that 'The Low End Theory' includes none other than (the Miles Davis Quintet's) Ron Carter on bass.

Some wonderful stuff on these albums, but I don't know that there's that much more 'jazz-rap'. Did the genre truly take off?

No, it didn't. It's a lot easier to make money rapping about money, being pimps, cars most of them can't afford and have to rent for the videos, Cristal and B****S.

I'm still waiting for a real, heavyweight Jazz group to include a truly talented improvising MC. Not Jazz Rap, but Jazz with Rap. It'd be a perfect combination, and I can't think of any examples...just try to think of the equivalent of the Coltrane Quartet with an MC...it'd be rediculously awesome if there were good enough musicians willing to go for it.

I'm not sure who the guy was on Busta's song but I do know of a saxophonist, Vondell Henderson who plays with R&B artists, pop, and Rap. You can check out the latest duo, 2Deep anytime online at: www.myspace.com/2Deeponline or
www.2Deeponline.com

If you're in the Los Angeles, area you can catch them LIVE at Club 740 March 23rd at 10pm.

I'm really surprised this hasn't happened yet. I mean of course you have heard of plenty of rappers free styling over beats (who knows how many of them actually are free styling and didn't just write the verse beforehand). But to be able to gel and flow on a lyrical level is intense and hard to keep up with for a long time; especially for it to be considered good.
