Good list. Lamb a is good choice for number one. Was Topographic Oceans on there?

I was very pleased to see that. A great little oft overlooked Japanese band.

I agree. Great list. There's some stuff on there I haven't heard of so this list should shed a little more light.

The only thing a list like that is missing is Dream Theater.

I have to say, I did not know that those fellows over at IGN were that knowledgable in music. That said, I have issues with lists that limit themselves to one recording per artist. I'm no authority on prog and haven't heard most of those albums, so no comment from me on how good the list is.

Never heard.. but that mention was one of the reasons that I posted this list.
Dunno, it pretty well covers a lot of prog. bands that I enjoy but I don't like Genesis, personal taste I guess. Didn't include any of Anekdoten/Anglangard/Landberk/Dungen etc... maybe towards the bottom at least representing the 90s.

I am no prog expert, but I found the list to be very well represented... Funny thing though is I consider "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" more of an "art rock" album then a "prog rock" album...

Plus, it was interesting that they listed one Moody Blues album. If they were gonna acknowledge it as great, why not include the other four or five of theirs that are close to the same level of greatness?

Just in case I wasn't clear before....it's a really dull list.

Some of the records are not even considered the best by several of the bands chosen.

Many don't even belong on a top 1000 aka Neo-Prog revival snoozefests.

Has anyone taken a look at their Jazz and Reggae lists?

Overall a pretty good list. As Satchmo implied, it's weighted toward the 'Dream Theater' end of things (just as their reggae list is, IMO, too dance hall heavy), but still a decent list.

As they state in their introduction, this isn't a list of the best prog, period - although their headline would give one that impression. It's a list of the best prog to use as an introduction to the genre, and to spread the prog net as wide as possible (hence the art rock crossover) within 25 albums. In their description of the Gentle Giant and Amon Duul II picks they clearly state, in effect, that these are not the 'best' albums from these bands. The same could be said of others. 'Best' is not their point.

I was happy to see Magma in there. And Aphrodite's Child - 666 is a relatively over looked art/prog gem. Porcupine Tree is a fine choice for the newer prog end of things. I never got into UK, but that's not to say that I missed that boat.
