Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury
Its been a few months since its release but I'm just wondering what other people thought of this album.
To me it was really good in one respect and ok in the other. The beats are awesome. I love The Neptunes as a production team and this is a great collection of some of their best. I was a big fan of Clipse's first album Lord Willin and the beats are a step up as a whole (even the intro track is better then most of the singles from last year!). The rhymes on the other hand I think aren't anything too great. I loved Lord Willin, it got so much play from me and a lot of that had to do with the memorable rhymes. But to me Hell Hath doesn't deliver to its fullest potential in that department. The rhymes are ok, memorable on some tracks.
I think Clipse is a great duo and I'm upset I won't get to see them this tour. But am I the only one listening past the beats on this album and think the two don't match up?

Funny you mention this cd, I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago and I like it a lot. The lyrics go back in forth in quality like you said, but overall the album sounds great for a more popular rap album.
Btw, Trill, is a fucking great song.

I like the whole album but it's sad it won't sell like someone like Jeezy (who I don't understand the phenomonon). The lyrics don't go too many new places for the Clipse but they've still got nice punch lines and delivery.
The beats are tight but sometimes I think Pharell just makes a beat clicking spoons at breakfast while he's eating some cereal.

Haha yeah Trill is definitely a personal favorite of mine. Usually songs take a couple listens to grow on me but Trill was attractive right off the bat. The beat is crazy and I don't think Pharell made this one at the breakfast table. Overall with the beats Pharell and Chad are pretty good at making catchy beats that sound different.
Here is an interview on pitchfork with Malice from Clipse, its actually a pretty good interview and is pretty coherent for a rapper with some success:

Yeah this was an awesome CD from last year. The production is top notch and there are some clever rhymes. I agree that the lyrics hold it back from becoming a classic.
And Trill is a monster

I also really like the Girl Talk remix of Grizzly Bears song Knife that uses Wamp Wamp. You can hear it here.

Vol. 2 is great, if your a fan of Clipse you'll like it. The beats are OK on some tracks but great on others. Its a mixtape so its all flows,
as Shaq and Methodman said, "We don't need no hooks"
