Dream Theater has made no changes to its lineup since its conception.

As far as I know.

Are you kidding me? Labrie was not their Original singer and they've been through keyboardists Kevin Moore and Derek Sherinian.

...not excluding Charles Dominici (the horrible singer on When Day and Dream Unite) & Chris Collins.

The only original members still left are John Myung, John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy.

And here is where I back out of this conversation mildly gracefully.

You know what the first mistake was? Well beside not realizing it was a humor in the form of a rhetorical question.

That Satchmo somehow wouldn't know and/or remember it. When Dream Theater popped into your head this should have happened.... Something is wrong. There is no way Satchmo could have forgotten that....Either Armageddon is about to begin, or I better make sure about my facts.

P.P.S. Is there currently any Metal band that still has it's original members and/or doesn't have members who are either not in or been part of 10 other bands?

I think SYSTEM OF A DOWN has the same members, and they're not involved in too many side projects. Same with MASTODON.

KINGS X has it's original three, but there are side projects like JELLY JAM, POUNDHOUND, and solo albums.

It's an interesting question.

Just thinking...the inverse is also interesting.

How many bands have NO original members and continue to soldier on? How many have NO original members and sound better than the original band?

Now this is actually an interesting question. For the first question....off the top of my neurons.

Opeth
Napalm Death
Finntroll
Iced Earth
Zao
Holocausto
Molly Hatchet

Bands with only one member left

Guns N' Roses
Iron Maiden
Rush
Megadeath
Venom
Mayhem (for a while it didn't have any in it.)
In Flames
Impaled Nazarene
Deep Purple
Ratt

Actually, it had occurred to me that I know very little about Dream Theater and that it was very likely they had done member changes before, but like a young child, I thrust myself headlong into naivete.

In re: to your list of bands, I'd like to add King Crimson as a one-member-left group. Though their new stuff is arguable as to consistent quality. Would they keep going if Fripp quit? Probably, Belew seems to be the frontman for the group now.

I really liked the last couple of HOLOCAUST records - and John Mortimer is the only original one left from the NWOBHM days.

Good call on MOLLY HATCHET - Walmartish as it was, I really thought the last one "Warriors of the Rainbow Bridge" was good. I think there's only one remaining member of the original band there.

FLEETWOOD MAC - definitely not.
