Binary Star - Masters of The Universe
 .
Pretty much an unknown collaboration of two artists very well known in the Pontiac Underground here in Michigan. The two emcees (Senim Silla and OneManArmy) both show their lyrical talent. This album is very solid and surprisingly alive compared to music from their time. This is the only official release by the collaboration of the two as they both took their separate ways (rumors are around they might get together again). The messages here are genuinely honest and positive in every sense of the word. The lyrical content of the album is pretty good, as Binary Star likes to focus on lyrical content more then beats. Still the album as a whole is amazingly effective and great for their second album. Their first album "Water World" was only given out 1000 copies so not necessarily available to everyone, making more sense to say this is truly their debut as its easier to get hold of. Songs like 'Reality Check', 'Conquistadors', and 'Slang Blade' is a must if your into underground hip-hop. You need to check this out, honestly it's a great listen.

Be warned the beats are quite mediocre, at times the lyrics seem the same, but for the most part the album is solid when it comes to lyrical content (some really shines, some doesn't).

I love it! I'm trying to track down a copy of Waterworld or even Masters of the Universe for my vinyl collection but I don't think I'll be successful.
OldSmell I'm getting to DJ Screw next.

Masta Ace
One of the most underrated rappers ever. If you prefer more "conscious" hip hop as opposed to straight gangsta rap, then this is for you. The album itself is put together very well, with the songs and interludes forming one cohesive whole. Listen to the album in its entirety and I'm sure that most of you will love it. This belongs in everyone's hip hop collection.

Illogic-Celestial clockwork
The album is very poetic, he has a very unique way of rhyming, and the album is very philosophical, probably unlike anything you've heard before. He covers topics such as abortion and the fears that a woman has to go through when making a decesion like that, and then looks at it from her boyfriends point of view as well as hers. Another song talks about an abusive husband and how a son stands up against his own father for his mother. Some of my personal favorite songs on the album are
Birthright
1000 wispers
Celestial Clockwork
Lesson in love
First trimester
Stand ft. Slug
I wish he would make me

Planet Patrol - “Planet Patrol“
I suggest Planet Patrol for any old school hip-hop lover. I say that because some may not consider it “hip-hop to todays standards. The album came out in ’83 and definitely pulls off the sounds of that time. They have that electro/funk sound with a street flavor. They sound like a mixture (a very good mixture) of Earth, Wind & Fire and Afrika Bambaataa. The most recognizable song on the cd is “Play At Your Own Risk. It’s the highlight of the cd (to me), but far from all they have to offer. I don’t think there’s a bit of disappointment to be found here.
Queen Latifah - “Black Reign
I suggest “Black Reign because of it’s flavor. It’s jazzy, it’s hip-hop, it’s hard, it’s pure soul, it carries a message, and it all comes together for a truly solid album. Her words have meaning. Her flow and rhyme are truly like no other. The album is full of emotion. It’s truly a must have for anyone’s hip-hop collection. Honestly, every album by her is well worth the purchase.
I'm not good with "selling points," but I gave it a shot. Good stuff...this I know.

Jeru The Damaja - "The Sun Rises In the East"
The Damaja and DJ Premier (who produced the entire album) complement each other all the way through. The Damaja has incredible rhyme ability. His lyrics are intelligent and thought provoking, and his delivery is precise. It's an incredible album that should definitely be listened to at least once. Whether you feel it or not, I don't think you'll feel it was a waste of time. Also to note, the song "Mental Stamina" features Afu-Ra (for Afu-Ra fans). As far as I know, it was the first ever heard of Afu-Ra on any album.
