My friend bought this in high school for $1.25 from a used cd store. We both agreed that it was the best purchase of all time.

I often think of this as my favorite album of all time. If death is the ultimate subject matter of art (and I believe it is) then this is rock'n'roll's crowning achievement. Proven to be brutally honest, extremely dark and Nihilistic and it's still time to party down. Brilliant.

Excellent choice, it is THE biggie album and such a great rap album too.

While I'm gonna go ahead and complete the set:

Now I think Ready to Die is a great starting place for biggie and for some Life After Death isn't really too good. But I love biggie, he is my favorite rapper, his flow is really addictive and his rhyming is really fun and original. If you find that your are missing something in Ready To Die it is the lack of commercial appeal, Life After Death has that pop but it also has that gangster side. The production is great, the beats are memorable and come from a number of producers. The rapping is top notch and you just can't deny the skill if you are a fan of rap. The guests are great, hell I even like Puff Daddy on The World is Filled, but damn Jay-z and biggie together on I Love The Dough is classy as usual. The Notorious Thugs song gets a little tiresome after a while but still a great and memorable guest appearance. This album is a true classic, maybe not as much as Ready to Die but this is not to be missed if your a fan of biggie, east coast rap, or hip hop in general.

Glad it worked out for you.

Next up. I need to mention DJ Screw. He made so many mix tapes and tracks from those mix tapes got put on other mix tapes and put on cds and then got remixed and then remixed again by Screw and people claiming to be Screw and on and on . But basically, it's all awesome. I have about 20 CD's of Screw and fake Screw and Screw wannabes and I honestly like it all. The man was mos def a pioneer.

Please do so. I would be interested in learning more since I have never heard any of his stuff. Whats a good intro to him? Whats something accessible of his?

It's all pretty much weird as shit. He mixes in soulful vocals but the concept is to emulate the sound of tripping your brains out on cough syrup.

Yeah I'm familiar with the style, chopped and screwed is what we call it up north. I do enjoy it but have only really had exposure when a track comes on at a party or something so I'm not very sure what I've heard.

I'm kind of hesitant to tell you where to start but I like this one and it's easily available

Alright, I'll see if I can find it and tell you what I think.

Heres one for the kids:

I'm referring to the Sugarhill Gang's full debut, but I think the only thing that really needs to be heard is the single Rappers Delight. I think most people reading this thread have heard this song but if not, get it. Its very enjoyable and fun with a beat that is a true classic. For historical purposes this was the first rap single to get major airplay so for a lot of people it was their first exposure to rap.

my Tupac knowledge consists of All Eyez On Me, a couple mixtapes, random compilations from friends, and just random tracks along the way.

I'll do All Eyez On Me in a little bit unless you wanna go for it.
