I agree with you about Nas. It may not all be positive, but he mixes his up gangster rap with more meaningful subjects. I think the thing he plays on the most is being true to yourself.

I do remember seeing the making the video to the song "I Can" and he looked stoned off his ass

I think peoples problem with him is that he got popular. It may not be as inventive as Illmatic but its still quality material.
