Melechesh anyone?

For whatever reason, I was looking for some middle eastern metal bands, and stumbled on Melechesh.

Zephyr mentioned them in the Best of 2006 thread.

This sentence off of wikipedia pretty much sums it up:

Quote:
The band's goal was to create a type of black metal incorporating extensive Middle Eastern influences mainly based on Mesopotamian/Sumerian and occult themes (both musically and lyrically); the band invented the title "Mesopotamian Metal" to best describe their type of black metal.

So, I check out their newest album Emissaries and it was very satisfying

I felt that it was my obligation to share it with the rest of RM

They also have some songs on their myspace page:

Much better than Nile and none of that fake B.S. that Nile passes off as real historical facts.

You might want to check out

Equimanthorn - Second Sephira Cella

It's made up of members from Absu (another group you should check out if you haven't. Their drummer was the drummer for Melechesh for six years, which he left in 2005. He is on their two previous recordings.), Melechesh and The Soil Bleeds Black.

The name of the group comes from the Bathory song, which is on....Under The Sign: The Sign Of The Black Mark.

I checked out Emissaries...and I like it though I find I am losing interest in most black metal lately.

I'm listening to a track from an album called A Tribute to Hell: Satanic Rites- Darkness

It's really cool.

I've got their Sphynx album, which isn't too bad. I haven't ever checked anything else by them out, but I might now.

I think you guys expect too much from Black Metal. If it's taking up more than ten percent of your listening time you definitely are.
