Well I'm back and I think it was a success. I'll go through a couple of the high and low points but I saw around 20 full sets so I won't bore you with everything.

great:

Sonic Youth, this was their first show for the full Daydream Nation tour and it went over very well. You could tell they were a little nervous and stiff at first but once they got through The Sprawl (hadn't performed it in 18 years) they seemed to open up. The encore was rocking.

Wilco, sounded excellent, had a great set and closed with Spiders and Kidsmoke (my favorite Wilco song)

Patti Smith, an excellent set list and some well done covers.

Beirut, sounded great, had an excellent set list.

Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Apples in Stereo, Melvins, Slint, White Stripes, Justice, Battles, Buzzcocks, Architecture in Helsinki, Blonde Redhead

were all great, excellent set lists, and if you have the chance to see them you should.

bad:

Smashing Pumpkins (might as well be called "Billy Corgan and his little drummer boy play the Smashing Pumpkins"), it was nice to finally see Billy Corgan in person but that just about ruined my thoughts towards him. For one, the scabs he got didn't cut it. Whoever was on keys didn't know her stuff and kept missing big notes. Billy would start laughing and staring at her whenever this happened.

Fuck Billy Corgan. When he wasn't saying how great the Smashing Pumpkins were or asking Ginger Reyes (who speaks a bit of Spanish) to translate what the crowd was saying (are they saying that we're the greatest?) he was sitting there in his stupid costume, he looked like one of these guys:

Billy Corgan just came off like such an ego maniac.

A great weekend! Saw old favorites, discovered new music, got drunk and spent some more time in Barcelona.

1. It's good to see that you had a good time and made it out in one piece. *

2. How was Nels Cline with Wilco?....which is the best and main reason to see them now.

3. So, basically Billy is still Billy and you can't go home again in terms of the group.

* While Satchmo did say he would disavow any knowledge, as always he did have The Squirrels on constant training and DEFCON 2.

Now that you're back....I can put them back on DEFCON 5.

hah I knew I saw a couple of squirrels trailing me!

Nels Cline sounded great! He even came out and did some covers with Patti Smith (Soul Kitchen was my favorite). With Wilco he was spot on too. They played a lot of older songs which was great. I must admit a lot of my attention was on Tweedy for their set though.

Mark Ibold came out and did the encore with Sonic Youth which was rocking.
