I won't say best, but Billy Ficca from Television does a damn good job on Marquee Moon. Everyone always goes on about how it's a great guitar album; I think the drumming gets overlooked. If you hear a copy with the bonus material, the untitled instrumental is very cool.

if i had to take a specific rock drummer as my personal favorite i'd go with stephen perkins from jane's addiction.

i'm also partial to the playing styles of
matt cameron (soundgarden)
danny heifetz (mr. bungle / secret chiefs 3)
bill ward (black sabbath)
bill bruford (king crimson)

I love Keith Moon and Lombardo. Pan has reminded me of Bill Ward who I think is a gun and perkins who is a champ. Rob Hurst from midnight Oil is also one of my favourites.

Keith Moon and Mitch Mitchell are my favorites.

Really? I know a lot of people feel that way. What album do you think best showcases his talent?

Disraeli Gears I think shows Ginger at his best. I think his work on the Blind Faith album is remarkable as well. Ginger Baker's Air Force shows him well at work. His work with Bill Laswell is quite notable, and his solo Horses & Trees is, at the very least, interesting.
