If you're worried about funds try a public library.

Whatever. Smithsonian Folkways. Harry Belafonte Anthology of Black Music. Bristol Sessions. Harry Smith Collections.

And my music collection stands strong by any standard.

I've listened to a couple of Miles Davis albums and never got into them. Can anyone recommend something more straightforward than this from which I can move into better things. I've always liked it when metal/rock bands ocassionally foray into jazz and I'm sure I'll eventually get to like this genre a lot more.

Were the records you listened to from the fusion era? Like Bitches Brew?

If you need something more straight forward than Kind of Blue... sorry to be so obvious but... Duke Ellington. ?

Davis had a long career. He used to play with Charlie Parker. Which releases are you familiar with?

Try his first quintet with John Coltrane. Mostly standards.

Compilations of rare stuff are always cool.

I really like Head Hunters, but for some reason I wouldn't think of it as an intro to jazz.

If you go to someone's house and they don't have it, you should be, like, "dude, why don't you have it?"
