Anyone have any experience with copyrighting band material? Name most of all, but songs and material. Any help would be great. Links would be great, so you don't have to type a lot.

Yet another Satchmo, Help! thread.

You can't copyright a band name. You can only Trademark names of anything.

I thank you for the help. If there is an album, you'll receive a credit.

Course, I guess people will just think I'm a fan of classic Jazz.

Unless it is a made up band name then I don't think you can register it as a trademark unless it has a fancy artistic rendering. Then it is only the artistic render that is the trademark.

As far as copyrights go, in the US copyrights are automatic upon completion of the artistic material. This would cover the content of the song, composition and lyrics; not the song title. The only thing registering it with the copyright office does is give you proof that you came up with the idea first, and they also will pay for your attorney in any court dispute with another party that threatens your right as owner of the material.

If you have a way to prove you came up with the music first (soundclick, last.fm) then there is really no reason to copyright unless you are worried someone can outprove your case in court and will actually try to do that.
