Best Jazz Albums of 2006
Ah, yes, it's that time again, when all of us (except one, I believe) look back on the past year and realize we forgot to listen to any new jazz. Breaking what I expected to be a continuing trend from last year, I actually not only listened to several new jazz albums this year (!), but also listened to new jazz albums that were actually recorded this year. Anyway, I'm rounding up some last-minute listens, I'll post my fairly short some time this or next week (things are busy, with school). Anyone who wants to contribute, with even a single album, may feel free to do so. I can tell this thread is going to be a success, because last year's thread is still on this page.

Looking forward to seeing some lists here. I ran out of Jazz a few months ago.

Translation:
If Satchmo does drop a list, I don't want him feeling lonely.

Do you realize just how impossible and absurd this comment happens to be, especially with all the knowledge that has been dropped on this board?
There is the:
1. Best f 90's thread
2. Best 2000's thread
3. Best of 2005 thread
4. Three of the What are you listening to threads?
5. All the recommend something threads aka Help, Satchmo!
6. Every other thread I have posted in the Jazz forum.
You could spend years with just those, Baby!

have to admit I haven't listened to many jazz music that came out this year, except for a few (semi)dutchies. Maybe some lists here will provide me an 'aha erlebnis' here or there, but that'll be about it, I'm afraid.
I would like to recommend the documentary 'Afijn', though, to anyone even remotely interested (and who isn't?) in the music and mind of Misha Mengelberg. Great documentary. It's out on DVD on the ICP label.

Like the rest of you, I am waiting for that Satchmo character to drop his list. I saving every single penny. I am not even drinking milk, Pepsi or Beer, Baby! No Beer? Yes, no Beer!!!!
If I could find a way around it, I would give up food!
P.S. Misha is a hell of a piano player, but at times can say a lot of idiotic things aka a complete ass. However, he is down with DA MONK....

that's very true, and he definately doesn't seem to care much about the rest of humanity. In a way, however, that's also part of what makes him (an) interesting (subject for the film). Sure wouldn't like to live near him, though

Satchmo is cobbling together a little somethin' somethin'. I am not sure if I am in the mood to be as in depth as 2005, or even 10% of 2005.
As per usual with Satchmo, it all depends on the time I have and my mood....
aka
It could be posted anytime between the next minute or December 21, 2007.

Ok, there're still some albums that I haven't gotten to and would like to (still haven't gotten to hear Sound Grammar, or Anthony Braxton's Victoriaville '05 albums ), but I'm just going to edit them in if/when I listen to them. At the moment, the five jazz albums I listened to from 2006, in order of preference:
Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Brothaman in the Fatherland
Dave Douglas - Meaning and Mystery
Andrew Hill - Timelines
Charles Mingus - Music for Monterey, 1965...Live at UCLA
Sonny Rollins - Sonny, Please
