Ayler and Coltrane together would be cool to hear, but I really don't dig Ayler's sound that much. I find Holy Ghost far too much Ayler, although it is a stellar monument for anyone who likes his sound. I would like to hear any Ayler/Coltrane tapes mostly just for Coltrane.

1. You're a good kid (hey when you're a 103 everyone younger is a kid)/Grasshoppa and all, but you can never have enough Albert Ayler, Baby!

2. You will all just have to take it from Satchmo....it's importance is more historical than musical.

Fair enough, but for sax gimme a heaping helpful of Prez or Bird. I tend to dig the earlier generation's sax over the latter (with exceptions in Coleman and Coltrane). All in all, I'm mostly a piano man ('Brilliant Corners' - gimme, gimme, gimme!), and often enjoy trumpet over sax.

You're more into the melodic players. You should check out Stan Getz, but especially Lester Young.

"We [tenor saxophonists] would all play like him, if we could."

--John Coltrane speaking about Getz's tone.

Getz and Bird were two of those from the Lester Young school of tenor playing. While Coltrane and Sonny Rollins would be from the other of the Two Schools of Tenor playing aka Coleman Hawkins.

You would dig Prez aka Lester!

Oh, The Zola digs Mr Getz: 'Anniversary', 'Serenity', 'The Complete Roost Recordings'. Solid.

I mentioned Prez in the previous post - and I do dig.

If you don't have it already, get Getz's People Time. It's just him an Kenny Barron, and it was recorded only 3 months before his death from Liver Cancer. It was his last recording.

Pure Beauty, Baby!

Also, there is single cd "Best of" verison of this, but if you can find the full 3cd version of this one, which is now Satchmo Out of Print.

I don't use this often, but

Repeat after Satchmo:

I MUST GET It!
I MUST GET IT!
I MUST GET IT!
I MUST GET IT!
I MUST GET IT!

I MUST GET IT!

I MUST GET IT, BABY!
