Artists that are critically acclaimed that you dislike
Now I'm not talking about Britney, Styx or Nickelback. I'm talking about artists who are darlings of the critics and you just can't understand why. You don't have to loathe them but you'd rather not hear them. For me it's:
Pearl Jam
Metallica
The Smiths
Joy Division/New Order
Elvis Costello
Eric Clapton (solo material)
Tragically Hip
U2

I got your back there except I love Joy Division, I really like The Smiths and I like New Order. I like the Tragically Hip when they are soft and melodic but I don't think they can rock. Of all the names on your list I detest Clapton the most. So so so over-rated. Pearl Jam do almost nothing for me and besides Master of Puppets Metallica are boring as Hell. And, I'll never forgive U2 for suing SST records over that Negativland fiasco.
My picks are Tom 'Fake Gravel' Waits, 'Frat Rock' Fugazi and 'I Wish I Were Japanese Bjork'.

I`m pretty much with you on this one, too. Perhaps not Metallica, but especially Eric Clapton and U2. Haven`t heard Tragically Hip, and not going to.
Additionally I would say Nine Inch Nails and Phoenix.

Metallica to me are about as lame as it gets, sorry. I like almost all 80s bay-area thrash bands better.
The mid 80s U2 were cool, but I don't care much for the rest of their material.
Led Zeppelin? Sorry. Not my bag.

I don't listen to music that has been reviewed.

That've been mentioned already, I would agree with non-80's U2, Elvis Costello, solo Clapton, and Dylan's Modern Times (I like Time Out of Mind, haven't listened to Love and Theft). I would like to add the Chili Peppers' last album (and a few before that, although the stuff I've heard from this one is the worst yet), I think Rolling Stone must be nuts to name them "Band of the Year."

i totally agree about RHCP on the basis of this thread. RS calling them 'band of the year' seems kind of appropriate for their target market though. but really though, when's the last time RS really amounted to anything?
