Before the Music Dies

Hey all sorry if you've seen this already here.

There have been a few threads about the state of music; this should sum things up.

Also serves as an intervention if you have bought / ever buy an album or single by Paris Hilton or Ashlee Simpson.

There's a whole lot of crapolla there. Costello, Clapton, Billy Preston, Les Paul - solid. Dave Matthews? Badu? (as you mentioned) Wide Spread Panic? Christ.

Dave Matthews: "We have to teach the children." ??? Why didn't they interview BB King? Van Morrison? Buddy Guy? Bo Diddley? Fats Domino? Johnny Otis? Peter Green? Ahmet Ertegun? Jerry Wexler? Jerry Lee Lewis? Chuck Berry?

while there is a lot of crap there it's that sort of fringe crap that might open the ears to a broader amount of people. while i can't stand dave matthews his name alone will draw hordes of college kids who might otherwise not listen to anything past his gurggling. he's more in that grey area between mainstream shit and good music, kind of like how the black album divides old metallica and new metallica while retaining a certain unique quality.

They needed someone that was considered current, whom the crtics for whatever reason liked.

I understand all of that. Yet, focusing interviews on current performers, and including Matthews's quote - "teach the children" - while not allowing some interview room for the masters is the perfect sign of a poorly documented film.

That's because you know who are the masters. The people this is meant for, are those that listen to the crap this is about. To them Dave Matthews is a master.

Well, then I guess the music is going to die.

It's the Descent that I often mention, especially when a master dies. At least we still have the two options that I consider are the only methods of finding music for the modern music lover:
Go underground or go back in time. Fortunately, we can do both.
