When you first start watching this, you will wonder why Satchmo posted this in a Green Day thread....but you will see.

Having perfect pitch hearing, I feel his pain. Can barely listen to pop music because of it

Of course Green Day is only one of the offenders (and Cannon is not the only scalar note progression copied ad nauseum) but as this thread is about this particular pop band, that would be the appropriate focus

It's not just crappy groups who have used it. For example:

Beatles - In My Life
Bowie - Changes & All The Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople version as well.
The Who - Pictures of Lily
Ozzy - Goodbye to Romance
Pixies - Debaser
Bob Dylan - Workingman's Blues #2

So...they're pretty punk - for a 90s band.

how is it possible for a band that has it's own plane with an anarchy symbol on the tail suck more than green day? i mean there's an anarchy symbol on their airplane. if that doesn't scream punk rock i don't know what does. i mean come on. personal band airplanes are totally punk rock and we all know it. there's no way a ostentatious display of decadence like that could possibly go against the spirit of punk rock... err...

i only wish i could find a pic of dexter holland's plane. owning your own plane is so fucking punk rock man.
