I can't listen to that "time of your life" song (or whatever it is called) without feeling fucking annoyed.

Two girls sang that at my high school graduation ceremony. Terrible Terrible Terrible.

I have many guilty pleasures too, but at least I don't make weak attempts to rationalize them. You want to try and rationalize it in a way other than "I like this band," that's fine, but just don't think everyone else is stupid enough to fall for it.

Hey, I don't own any Green Day records or even have any of their MP3's, I just think their songs are ok when I come across them in the media. But compared to Fugazi, what can I say? At least Green Day's songs have catchy hooks. Fugazi is like eating very dry white meat, boring and tedious.

This sort of thread allways get people to talk past each other, as Punk music and Punk movement is two separate things. Now, what did you mean, BissaStar? Seems like a "part of the movement" question, but if you think they make as good music now as they otherwise would have done, while not trying to appeal to a broader audience. Then I don`t think you should mind it`s status.

The truth is that if there is a 'punk movement' then Green Day is not part of it. They took part of the aggressive/abrasive sound and made pop songs while using that sound. There is nothing 'punk' about them aside from that sound.
Speaking of sounds...it seems like the singer can only make one vowel sound...they are all the same...

Greenday better than fugazi?? From someone who doesn't know what they are talking about I could understand, but from someone who does know good music and who has been into music for a while like yourself, I find that quite perplexing, odd and just a little bit strange.

Fugazi have plenty of hooks, they are just a little more subtle and less accessable than what commercially inspired stadium rockers like greenday have. Fuck dude I thought your musical taste was much more developed than relying on some in your face obvious hooks to get your attention.

I'm past the pitfall of assuming a band is better just because they're more underground.

The fact that many Fugazi fans aren't even familar at all with Minor Threat (like one chick I met with a Fugazi button on her jacket) says it all about what kind of music fans Fugazi's music attracts.
