First Act Guitars?

I've seen the commercials with Slash and Nigel playing the First Act guitars but I'm wondering if someone who knows something about guitars can make any recommendations for a beginner player. First Act seems like a solid brand as does Fender but I don't want spend $1000.

if it's your first guitar then don't worry about the name on the headstock. seriously. it does NOT matter when you're learning. there'e absolutely no point in spending any amount of extra cash for a brand name guitar to start off (spend the extra on an amp)

the whole reason i say it doesn't matter what's listed at the top of the headstock is because most beginner guitars are all going to be equal quality, a $300 fender squire, epiphone, yamaha, or ibanez will all serve you just as well as the other, get whichever one looks cooler to you. once you've actually learned how to play a bit you'll be better able to apreciate the increased quality a pricier guitar offers and you'll have a better idea of what you want in terms of tone and playability when you decide to get a better one.

panbient, thanks for the good advice. much appreciated. You should enter the "rock god" contest on Vdubs Rock and I'll vote for you! It looks like a lot of the entries are playing their first act through the car but some are in the garage or even living room.

The Grasshoppa's issue is more of a Gluteus maximus than talent.

hmmm.... i'm not sure how to respond to being called a butt muscle

but yeah you're right ML, i'm not exactly a novice, but i'm not exactly a traditional player either. like a mix between tony iommi and thurston moore with a slight twist of hendrix when my fingers actually feel like moving properly. i care more about how i play than what i actually play.

if i submitted a video of me playing they'd likely think i'd only been playing for about 14 hours instead of 14 years unless they paid attention hehe. it's not that i can't technically play 'songs' it's that i have a hard time only playing what i'm 'supposed' to play for said 'song'. i'd rather play immediate music than practice composed songs.

I thought I was being clear, however, I meant you need to get off your Gluteus maximus.
