Mr. Bungle and the bands that came with it

I've got a bit of Mr. Bungle and I do think the stuff is pretty good. I've heard an awful lot about all the side projects so I decided to try and check out Faith no more. I could only get a copy of Album of the year which I thought was alright but not nearly as exciting as Mr. Bungle.

So what else should I check out of Mr. Bungle and the side projects? Earlier Faith No More? Secret Chiefs 3 sounds interesting, but I guess half of it is the name.

Maybe I should give Disco V. and California another couple listens to make this post a little less vague...

Um, get all the Fantomas ones.

My favorite Faith No More release is King for a Day, which is the one before Album of the Year. Trey Spruance from Mr. Bungle is the guitar player on KFAD, so that's some trivia right there.

Didn't Fantomas do an album called Soundtrack for a Surgery. I bought that for a friend for his birthday once and I could've swore it was by Fantomas.

Had no idea they were a Patton band.

Yeah, that one is called Delìrium Còrdia.

Mike Patton writes the music for the band. The other musicians are:
Dave Lombardo from Slayer
Trevor Dunn from Mr. Bungle
Buzz Osbourne from The Melvins

Mr. Bungle is ok, I have Disco Volante and was a bit disappointed with it. Fantomas, on the other hand, is excellent. Haven't heard much Faith No More.

if you want similar to bungle from the side projects i'd say your best bet is secret chiefs 3 or tomahawk. FNM is quite mainstream in comparisson to bungle but they're still quite good, album of the year is a favourite of mine that i still enjoy quite a bit almost 10 years later. tomahawk is more straight up rock (well... relative to patton hehe), SC3 is trey spruance's (guitar) main side deal, it mixes up metal, middle eastern and arabic melodies and instruments, surf rock, with an electronic twist. trevor dunn (bass) has his trio convulsant which is more like modern free jazz.

as for fantomas i'd recommend starting with 'the director's cut' or 'suspended animation'. the first disc is similar to SA but isn't as well produced. delirium cordia is cool too but it's a tough listen being that it's a 72 minute track, quite ambient though.

Everyone generally covered things, however, when it comes to Faith No More....Except no substitutes, Baby!

Well thanks for all the feedback. I always hear great things about Patton and judging by his fans it seems like it should be right up my alley.

And damn he really does work with some awesome musicians.

Alright so heres what I'm gonna try and get together.

FNM - Angel Dust
Tomahwak, which album should be checked out first
SC3 - which album

As for fantomas, I'm always weary about trying a band by their latest release. Typically I like trying the first album and working from there but noone suggest the s/t for Fantomas.

And Sleepy Time Gorilla Music? Whats the word on them
