Blues inspired Hiphop

Hey all.

Two of my favorite music genres are the blues and rap. Im looking for songs and artists who blend the two genres.

The only examples I can think of now are "Idlewild Blue" by outkast and "Crabbuckit" by K-os - Crabbuckit link. Im pretty sure Ive heard more but nothings coming to mind. I guess outkasts song is pretty much straight blues, but you get the idea.

Anyway, if you know of any good songs or artists that would fit this description let me know please. Good jazz inspired rap - like The Roots- is always welcome too.

Outkast's song is not "pretty much straight blues". And, like 'rap-rock', the bane of this generation's music scene, anything that would be 'rap-blues' will probably suck just as hard.

I really suggest just enjoying both genres for what they are individually.

You might like RJD2 and also Soul Position (a group RJD2 is part of). RJD2 is a DJ so a lot of his own work is just beats, but good none the less.

If you can try checking out the Resin Dogs. They're an Aussie group who sample quite a lot of jazz and funk etc.

buck 65's "talkin' honkey blues" is an excellent combination of old style talkin' blues and hip-hop.

Not someone with whom I'm entirely familiar, but I believe G. Love (& Special Sauce?) is both a rapper and a blues guitarist. What I've heard wasn't anything special, had that whole Ben Harper/Jack Johnson "look how softly I can sing" thing going on, maybe a little more melodic though. Pleasant, but probably not for more than like three songs, at least for me. Again, this is all first impressions, really didn't hear all that much.
