Goozeman, I take it you're talking about his live playing?....because considering the others buried his playing on the studio recordings, I don't understand that choice. Not that I would take him over Burton in any circumstance. You're correct about the personalities involved.
There're very few people that would have taken the abuse he did from the others throughout his entire time in the band.
Interestingly, as the others have become sober, cut their hair, gone to a psychiatrist, gone to the Dark Side aka Bob "Corporate" Rock, and become nicer,....their music has become worse.
