Recording vocals

Could any one suggest me the best way to record the sound/vocals from an external audio player to PC? What kind of cables and software program do I need?

Cool Edit Pro would be the easiest to use, and most effective software package. The demo is free.

Depending on what outputs the audio player had, you'd most likely need a 3.5mm jack to jack cable (99.9% of line in sockets on computer soundcards are 3.5mm). The cable goes into the 'Line In' socket on your computers soundcard.

I'd probably recommend plugging the other end into the headphone socket of the audio player, unless there's a dedicated 'Line Out' on the player. Headphone sockets generally output at a decent line level.

Press record in Cool Edit and play on the audio player, and away you go.

recording vocals

Connect the cassette deck, amplified turntable output audio device to the computer's Line In socket using a stereo audio cable. Any audio editing/ recording software can be of use. Try FlexiMusic Wave Editor Software to record the sound/vocals.

Aye, I have a question as well. What if I had a WAV track of music, and wanted to layer the vocals on it or record the vocals over it, onto the track. What would I do? I know im not good at explaining this stuff so feel free to ask for clarification.

If, by any chance, you're on a Mac, you can just import it on to Garage Band and record over it. If you're on a PC (or want better quality software than Garage Band, it's pretty basic), I can't help you.

This would be one of the times I wish I had a Mac. I sounds so simple.

But to answer Sachmos question, as of right now I am using Aldo's WAVEdit 1.2

Basically all I can get my hands on.

edit-jtlun I'm not even sure if this program can do what I want it to. If it can't, do you know one that can? I dont mind switching to another program.
