i love Rachmoninov; piano concerto no. 2 is one of my favorite pieces of all time. for some reason, i have a habit of listening to it whenever there's a thunderstorm.
other than the people already listed, I like Maurice Ravel a lot too.

I've seen this Holst guy mentioned over and over, this makes me want to check this guy out...and Horus_kol, which John Williams are you referring to? The classical guitarist, or the soundtrack composer?

the soundtrack composer - famous for most of Steven Spielbergs scores, and quite a few more besides.

Gustav Holst wrote the Planets Suite - the most popular of which are Mars and Jupiter.

Only five? Well... hmmm...

1. Tchaikovsky - the master of melodies

2. Chopin - the prince of pathos

3. Dvorak - uhh... nothing clever to say, I just really like From the New World

4. The old Ludwig von - the original hammer of the gods

5. Rachmaninoff - I've always been a sucker for piano compositions, so he and Chopin are pretty much irresistable.

Honorable mentions: Grieg, Sibelius, and Mussorgsky.

Has everyone forgotten Tchaikovsky? The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Piano concerto in Bb minor, the theme from syphony no. 5, Capriccio Italianno, and so many other soul manipulators?

Since most people are naming some composers that didn't live in the classical era, i'll do the same...

Danny Elfman
Nobuo Uematsu
Ludwig Beethoven
Claude Debussy
Rachmaninov
