Happy Birthday Dear Coltrane

He would be 80 today. It's hard to believe that the man who made the most progressive music I have ever heard died before I was even born.

hey, Beethoven died before I was born, so it's not that hard to believe.

But Beethoven's contributions have been built upon as classical became romantic became modern. With Coltrane nobody has been able to figure what to do next.

True about Coltrane, but what about Sun Ra?

Are you asking me if I consider Sun Ra to be as revolutionary and influential as Coltrane?

Well maybe not as influential, but revolutionary?

I don't like being in a position to lay anything but praise on Sun Ra and if the worst I can say is he's no John Coltrane that speaks very highly of the man. Late period Coltrane is the most revolutionary music yet to made.
