Ahh. . . . the anticipation of new Tom Waits. 3 discs of wonder.

“Orphans are rough and tender tunes. Rhumbas about mermaids, shuffles about trainwrecks, tarantellas about insects, madrigrals about drowning, says Waits. “Scared, mean, orphans songs of rapture and melancholy. Songs that grew up hard. Songs of dubious origin rescued from cruel fate and now left wanting only to be cared for. Show that you are not afraid and take them home. They don’t bite, they just need attention.

This sounds great.

That's so cool! Do you ever ask him why he doesn't play concerts in CA (if I remember, you live somewhere up around Sacramento, right? Somewhere in Northern California, I'm pretty sure)? Last time he played any shows, they were just in the midwest, I think. He's one of the people I most want to see live.

I wanted to go and see him play this summer so bad!!! Why would he play the midwest and not CA? Makes no sense. Maybe another tour soon? The last time i talked to him was about a year ago. I was standing outside safeway and he walked in, and then a minute later he walked out and came up to me and we talked about the weather (it was chilly) and i told him he had a cool jacket (he was dressed all in black and had tight black jeans and a black leather jacket). I saw him about a month ago at a restraunt eating with who i presume was his family. I always want to go and talk to him, but feel i would come off as an asshole fan.

Wow, that sounds great. Talking to him about anything seems like it'd be pretty cool. One day, perhaps...

This doesn't really need its own thread, but I thought some people here might find it amusing.

Actress Scarlett Johansson is planning to release an album of Tom Waits covers: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,221001,00.html

For the record, anyone trying to cover Waits is a bad idea. That being said, I really hope Miss Johansson sticks with his earlier stuff, because the thought of her trying to sing something like "Earth Died Screaming" is just too much.
