Pet Sounds vs. Sgt. Pepper's

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

it's the 40th anniversary of Pretty Much the Best Album Ever.

for all of you shameful people who don't already own this masterpiece, now's your chance to finally come into ownership of Pet Sounds, repackaged for its 40th anniversary with complete stereo and mono versions plus a bonus DVD. cool!

anyways.

Pet Sounds is one of the greatest achievments in rock history. released over a year prior to Sgt. Pepper's, it's doubtful that Pep's would exist without it. it could be argued that Pet Sounds was the greatest achievement in popular music up to that point, and may be unsurpassed in its leap forward in scope and ambition.

VS.

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Paul and the Beatles' reaction to Pet Sounds, the album that allowed pop-music artists to try whatever they want, the album that made Brian Wilson go crazy, the album that we've all read about, the album we've all heard and loved so much.

both albums are bonafide classics of the popular music canon. both are eloquently constructed and possiblly the two most ambitious albums ever conceived. when voting, try to weigh the fact that Pet Sounds was released over a year prior, the Beatles having not even released Revolver yet.

also, try this question: "God Only Knows", or "A Day in the Life"?

Not a Beach Boys fan. Ate, slept and breathed the Beatles since I was 4 - longer, actually, but I was not aware of who they actually were for a few years. The choice is clear to me

As much as I love Sgt. Pepper's, I'd have to go with Pet Sounds. Of the two songs you compared, however, I'd go with A Day in the Life.

It's a hard one for me to decide on. I tend to listen to Pet Sounds over and over again when I pull it out but with Sgt Pepper once is usually enough. But then again, A Day In The Life... I want to vote for BOTH of them instead of neither of them, you know?

Not a very tough pick for me... I like Pepper by a wide margin... I think Pet Sounds is very good, but I just don't think it is in the same league as Pepper (I realize many people think it is)...

Yikes, Sgt. Pepper is running away with this poll so far... I would have thought Pet Sounds would actually beat Sgt. Pepper... But now that I look back at the previous battle between these two I see Sgt. Peppers won by a big margin...

Very tough call for me. I would consider Pet Sounds and Sgt. Pepper about equal in importance, but Sgt. Pepper is a little more of a sentimental favorite for me, so I voted for it.

it's funny looking at the old thread and seeing you guys post almost the exact same things word for word

btw I voted for pepper then and I'm voting for it now
my love for each has actually grown since the last poll
but that still puts pepper on top
