What he may or may not have done with animals off camera is not at issue, on camera he treated them with no respect at all....and it ended up costing him his life and his family their love one. On camera, he was constantly harming the animals.
Go grab someone by their spine and twist it around and tell me it doesn't cause harm....but at least the human can tell you he or she is in pain. All the animal can do is to react in the only way it can. It will either try to escape if it can, or attempt to attack.
A
Stingray is normally very docile, unless threatened. They will go out of their way to escape, if possible. He and his cameraman boxed in the
Stingray.
Irwin trapped it from above, which is a major mistake only made by an inexperienced person. A
Stingray will always automatically flex the serrated barb on its tail upward, if it senses something above it and that close.
You don't see any of the other conservationists handling animals the way he did, or not respecting their space the way he did on camera.
It's because of how he treated the animals differently than others on TV that got him so much attention, and made him so much money.
