Hey, sorry it took me so long to get back to this. It is by no means an "inside" or "traditional" record. It uses the melodies and changes from the bebop songs included, but really only as a jumping-off point into much more outside playing, and in many songs ends up abandoning them all together. Some of the songs start outside and end inside, others to the reverse, some shift back in forth. I enjoyed the album, though, I'd reccomend it.

Thanks. I already downloaded it. I'll let you know after I listen to it.

While not one of the essential Braxton recordings, it's a good recording.

Anyone that expects Braxton to play the changes, doesn't understand or know much about Braxton.

While he is greatly influenced by Paul Desmond/John Coltrane....Braxton couldn't play changes if his life depended on it.

Warne Marsh wasn't a big fan of Braxton's Eight (+3) Tristano Compositions, 1989: For Warne Marsh....but it is an excellent recording....and Satchmo out of print.

Most of Braxton's Standard Recordings on which he sticks to his main instruments are good to great.

I am Satchmo and I approve this message.
