Not sure what you mean exactly.

Benny Carter - Further Definitions

A hell of a lineup and recording.

1. I knew what lead to the question; however, since there were two R.I.P. threads....I wasn't sure if you were asking what caused his death or you just missed the threads.

2. You're welcome.

Yeah, but the quartet he did with Brad Mehldau just recently is some pretty hot sh*t too. I refer to the Quartet recording, not just Metheny Mehldau (though the M/M disc might change your opinion on what you consider coma-inducing: "Find Me In Your Dreams" is a gorgeous piece of traditionalist jazz)

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you. A lot of the tracks just don't gel. But there are moments on that CD that are fantastic- the hard bop section in 1980 World Champion, and that Giant track, Wow. I just wish we'd hear more stuff like that tune they did on Give, Layin' a Strip for the Higher Self State, I think it was called.

The only recording of his really worth having is his recording with DA MAN....Ornette Coleman. As in Song X.

Even he can't go into coma-inducing mode with DA MAN involved.

Ugh, Song X was a misjudgment by all parties involved. Ornette Coleman does not turn my crank. He should give his name back to Mr Hawkins

One of the best solo sax recordings of the last 20 years. I remember back in 2004 when I first dropped knowledge on the Grasshoppas on where to get one of the only 500 copies.

This site just might make up the largest percentage of owners.

Another of his recordings which I highly recommend would be Zen Widow. It's a trio recording with Matthew Goodheart and Garth Powell.

P.S. Satchmo still knows where to find copies for those late to the show.
