Oh, sorry...I thought you were in my city. Duh. Forget I mentioned Norm's.

I buy three Strats before I buy three Strats...and then I buy three more.

I got it for six bucks. I am not spending $70 on four CDs, at least not anytime soon. That is just ridiculous, and with all the albums I could be getting for that much money (using yourmusic, that totals out at twelve discs when you factor in shipping and tax, three times as many for the same price), it just isn't happening. Maybe some time I'll pick that box up, especially if I somehow find it for cheaper, but as of now...

P.S. The other box is even worse, last I looked I could barely even find it, let alone afford it.

I guess it fits better here than in the film thread: 'Round Midnight, nice movie, especially for the musicians, (obsessive) fans are less interesting though... What album in the style of the movie, should I pick up first? Something from Bud Powell, Lester Young or Charlie Parker or just the soundtrack?

And np Blue Train

While the film is about a Tenor player, the real person the film was based on was Bud Powell. Well you could start with the star of the film's recordings aka Dexter Gordon.

Almost all his Blue Note recordings have been reissued.

The other greats involved in the film:

Wayne Shorter
Herbie Hancock
Freddie Hubbard
Bobby Hutcherson
Cedar Walton
Billy Higgins
Ron Carter

Considering you're supposed to be the unofficial official Satchmo translator....I would like to say.

what I read is that it was a mixture of Powell's story with that of Lester Young. and well at least I really liked Gordon, both his acting and playing.
