He plays on what seems like 50% of every Free Jazz/Improv recording in the U.S. of the last 15-years. Of course, he's been in wanking mode a good deal of the time for about 10-years.

P.S. If you had checked my Best Of lists you would have found it and several Simmons' recordings for that matter. This one you would have found as #3 for 2001.

Gerald Wilson - The Complete Pacific Jazz Recordings of Gerald Wilson

Most of this is some Prime Big Band S**T! from the 60's. It's only the later commercial stuff when it gets dicey. As in, a cover of Light My Fire. However, all the earlier stuff makes it more than worth it. Wilson goes all the way back the Jimmie Lunceford in 1939. He is one of the best arrangers in Jazz and an excellent composer. He worked on scores for Ellington, Basie, Gillespie back in the 40's....as well as in TV and Films. He did the scores for Ellington once Strayhorn died for the remaining 6-years of Duke's life. Wilson was also a hell of a trumpet player.

At the moment, Joe Pass is breaking off some serious S**T on a cover of Milestones.

It's still in print at Mosaic.

Vyacheslav Guyvoronsky and Vladimir Volkov

I spent some time listening to these guys the last couple days. I really love their stuff. It sort of reminds me of Mu by Don Cherry. Can be found on Leo Records.
