Rock'N'Roll Deaths

What are, in your opinions, some of the most interesting rock'n'roll deaths?

You mean, like, rock stars who died, or those who died in a manner fitting of rock n' roll?

I assume the latter.

Robert Johnson - poisoned for screwing around with another cat's woman. May have survived the poisoning and died of syphilis. Or maybe pneumonia. Or "no doctor". Either way, it's all rock n' roll, baby.

I'm personally with the "Devil coming to claim his soul" theory.

Jimi was pretty rock n' roll: booze and pills.

For shame, no barking like a dog?

Robert Johnson is a good one.

Quote:
In the mid '70's a man named Steve LaVere had discovered, that Robert Johnson's songs were NOT public domain, and any surviving family members were entitled to royalties. At the time, he could only find Robert's half sister, Carrie Spencer, who was living in Washington, DC. She agreed to hire LaVere as the agent for the Robert Johnson Estate. He proceeded to have artists charged, that had recorded and profited from Johnson's songs. One of the artists charged, was Eric Clapton -- who was more than happy to pay up, as soon as he was informed.
Apparently, during research for a 1998 trial involving a possible heir to the Johnson Estate, LaVere came across a document with something on it, that would shed new light about the cause of death.
Prior to this, it was known that in 1938 Robert Johnson was having intimate relations with a woman in Greenwood, MS. It appeared that someone had put some poison (possibly strychnine) into a bottle of whiskey, Johnson was about to drink -- for revenge. Later, he complained of feeling ill, and was taken to the home of an acquaintance, by his buddy & fellow musician Honeyboy Edwards, in the section known as ''Baptist Town''. Three days later, he died.
On the official Mississippi coroner's report, it stated: Cause Of Death ''No doctor''.
Poisoning, was the generally accepted reason, until LaVere came across a document which had a statement from the landowner on which Johnson died. He stated that Robert Johnson had died from complications of syphilis. LaVere interviewed several people about this, including Robert's friend Willie Coffee, and no one strongly denied it. Most people probably felt the poison story - better suited the legends surrounding Robert Johnson.
Even though he may have been a loner, a philanderer, and a real charmer, let's not forget that Robert Johnson wrote a lot from his experiences.
Combine that with original music writing talents, so amazing and unique - he was, and is, in a class by himself.
''His voice is so eerie, so compelling... and the guitar playing -- it's like Bach.'' Keith Richards
''I think he's the greatest folk blues guitar player, writer, and singer that ever lived.'' Eric Clapton
''He is a perfect example of what anybody should listen to if they want to get an understanding of the blues... and American history.'' Robert Cray

Makes me think of The Sonics

Quote:
Some folks like water,
Some folks like wine,
But I like a taste,
Of straight strychnine,

Lyrics to a tune about syphilis.

- Buddy Holly, Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens in a plane crash during a violent blizzard...

- Janis Joplin (drugs), but the doctor said her body was so infested with syphilis that it probably would have killed her soon after anyway...

- Members of Lynyrd Skynyrd in a plane crash... Not all that interesting. Just tragic...

- Rick Nelson (airplane crash). Rumor says everybody on board was flying high on coke...

- Marc Bolan (car crash). Rumor says his girlfriend caused the crash on purpose...

- Mama Cass (choking or heart attack). There is still speculation as to how she really died. Her family says the rumors of her choking on a sandwhich are not true, but the evidence is not so clear.

- Randy California (drowned). If I remember correctly he was trying to save someone and ended up drowning himself...

- Dennis Wilson (drowned). Mysterious circumstances. Was he pushed, was he drunk. Who knows...

- Jim Morrison (heart attack),, Did he O.D.? Was he murdered? Some think he is still alive...

- John Lennon (murdered by a fan). Although this is so well known, it is still a really bizarre situation.

- Kurt Cobain (suicide?). Rumors still exist that he was murdered. Evidence is not clear.

- ((and now my favorite))
Johnny Crash Hellcomb (bled to death when he fell upon some type of sharp object while in bed with his mother-in-law). He was the guitarist of a relatively unknown psychedelic band named Prism Glow of The Universe... The one tune I have heard of theirs was not all that good but it had a cool name (The Majestic Psychedelic Glow of Jericho)... Now, I have been unable to get much info on the band. A tape of several psychedelic songs was sent to me from a listener I had on internet radio from Israel and some info on each band was included... But, I think the info is true because I have verified most of it from other sources... As far as Prism Glow of The Universe, I think they never had a proper music contract but recorded their own material and sold it at gigs (which is a common practice among bar bands in the last 20 years or so)... So heres to ya Johnny, most people hate their mother-in-laws, you not only liked yours, but died because ya liked her a bit too much.
