Exposure of music... I need your help...
I am hoping some around here can help me out with some reference work I am doing for several projects for National Public Radio... I think some think it is fun to be involved in this kind of stuff and I plan on mentioning radio mute during the broadcasts (as well as other sites that I am conducting research at)...
Anywho, this one deals with exposure of music... Please think about how the following list has affected not only you but others in your life (relatives, friends, co-workers)... What I am looking for is a judgement by yourself as to how well the songs or albums listed below are known by you and people in your life... Not the quality of them, just their exposure to those in your life... For example, if I listed Clay Aiken's latest album and everyone in your family and all of your friends owned the album you would rate that album at full exposre (10 on the scale I will provide)... Another example may be the album by Family called "Music in a Doll's House" where you have a hippie cousin who loves that album but no one else you know of has even heard of it, you may rate that at the exposure level of 2... Now, also consider exposure from sources like radio, TV, Movies, commercials... Another example would be that many between the ages of 25-50 would probably know Dick Dale's "Miserlou" just because the song was featured in Quentin Tarantino's movie "Pulp Fiction"...
O.K., you get the idea... The scale is simple... For full exposure rate the song or album at 10, for no exposure rate it 0...
My own results from people in my life (including myself) will be at the end so you can scroll down to see those if you wish...
Here we go...
Rate these songs or albums based on exposure:
1.The album "In Utero" by Nirvana.
2. The song "Hey Ya" by Outkast
3. The "Greatest Hits" album of The Byrds
4. The song "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck Quartet
5. The song "Born To Be Wild" by Steppenwolf
6. The song "Over The Rainbow" (Judy Garland Wizard of Oz version)
7. The album "A Love Supreme" by John Coltrane
8. The album "Doolittle" by The Pixies
9. The song "Light My Fire" by The Doors
10. The album "Reign In Blood" by Slayer
Thanks in advance to all who participate...

How do you use this? You are mixing songs with albums, it seems like two different arenas in this context.

It's just a measure of awareness... I could have added in visual icons as well (like Mickey Mouse or a Nike logo)... I am trying to measure how exposed people are to various songs or entire albums... I hope that makes it clearer... Some of the songs and albums in my list are just markers (in other words, I am pretty sure how well known some of the items are, but I put them in there just as cover to the actual information I am trying to gather)...
I want an unbiased view... I will gladly give anyone the methodology behind this if they want to PM me, but I don't want "taint" the survey by telling anyone what I am looking for before they actually answer the questions... So far I have over 200 replies (most from an email list I built up from my days of online radio), but the responses from this site are very important because of the wide range of people that visit here and their wide range of culture and musical tastes...

Orpheus, I am curious, have few people you know (including yourself) not seen The Wizard of Oz?
