I don't know if any of my friends or family have seen it, it's not unlikely, I'm just not aware of it. I haven't seen it for sure. Maybe because I don't live in an Anglo-Saxon culture? Perhaps.

Excellent... I fully understand... That makes a lot of sense and is the main reason I posted this survey here (I love the diversity of the community here)...

In America that song is so common place among virtually all the people...

Is there any song in your culture that everybody from age 5-85 knows?

I just got an email reply from someone on my online radio list who lives in Taiwan and they too had no exposure to the Wizard of Oz... Their only knowledge of it was from people writing about it online having to do with that whole Pink Floyd Dark Side of The Moon coincidence, lol... Funny how some methods of exposure work that way... My initial knowledge of Sir Walter Raleigh came from the Beatles (this was years before I lived in a state who's capital was named after him)...

I was thinking today how many Americans are exposed to the great song "My City Was Gone" by The Pretenders because it is used as Rush Limbaugh's theme music for his radio show which reaches millions every day... What is so ironic about that is the song is one of the most ant-republican songs ever written (blasting the big business economics of the conservative movement) and yet Republicans have no cluse (as the song is listed on the conservative web site The National Review as one of the top 50 greatest conservative songs of all-time... They totally misunderstood the meaning of the lyrics... Well, Rush knows what the lyrics meant and those lyrics actually don't play on his show. For awhile Hynde blokced Limbaugh from using the song but later let him use it again if Rush donated a half mil to PETA)...

Bottom line is that song is well exposed and has such a mixed reaction to what it means to different groups of people (Many Rush fans who have no clue about the origins and lyrical content of the song and on the other side of the coin liberals who are Pretnders fans who love the lyrical content... What trancends it all is musically it is AWESOME)...
